No Need to Tamper With TraditionEven with all of the reasons that suggest that the NBA playoff seeding system should be changed, people still have reasons to keep the system as it is. Though it is true that in recent years the Western Conference has been better than the Eastern Conference by a wide margin, it has not always been that way. There were periods of time when the Eastern Conference was superior to the Western Conference. The balance of power keeps shifting between the two conferences. Many of the people pushing for a playoff system change are people who work for or are fans of Western Conference teams. If a playoff change is made now that will satisfy this group of people then once the power tilts back to the East, Eastern Conference teams’ workers and fans may begin to have a problem with the system, causing this whole situation to re-introduce itself. Some people believe that it is best not to tamper with the NBA’s playoff tradition.

RivalriesThe NBA and its playoff system have been around for over sixty years, bringing joy and excitement to the fans. Fans love watching conference and divisional rivalries flare in the regular season along with the playoffs. Changing the playoff system would lessen the relevance of those rivalries, causing fans to lose interest. If fans lose interest, they will attend less games; this will reduce the revenue that the NBA is bringing in, which will impact players' salaries and that could cause them to not be able to do as much for communities and charities. The best thing to do is keep fans entertained and happy with the sport they love so much.
